First movie shot with Apple devices and edited on an iPad 2

Lights, camera ,Action....this sounds familiar to the ones who follow movies regularly.Till date we have seen a lot of movies, and you all knew how the film shoot carries a lot of bundled equipments, including bulky cameras and till its release to the editing and mixing theatres.

Also,we in mims have been though various mobile films of which noted are, "pokiri" from 2005 batch,"sivaji","dhoom","jagadam","chatrapathi",from 2004 batch students.

For now, lets see a change from routine.... guys from Majek Pictures created what they say is the first movie edited on iPad 2 with iMovie.

This movie, which is actually a short episode within a longer story, is professionally shot and edited by Michael Koerbel and Anna Elizabeth James — entirely with Apple's iOS devices (iPhone 4 and the iPad 2).

It is an episode from the ongoing Goldilocks mobile series films, which are meant to be viewed on mobile devices such as the iPhone 4, and, now, the iPad 2.

The Goldilocks series was started on fall and it is distributed via the Majek app.

Koerbel and James got one of the first iPad 2 models in a store and then created this episode entirely on the tablet in the past 24 hours, and made this movie a possible one.

Sounds interesting isn't it!!!!!!

for now here is the movie, just enjoy it!!!

Anaganaga O Dheerudu review – Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu Movie review:

Director Prakash Kovelamudi’s fantasy film Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu review has raised many expectations due to many factors. It is Walt Disney’s first South Indian film. It is promoted as the best ever graphical film made in Indian history thus far. And of course it marked the debut of daughters of two legendary actors Kamal Haasan and Mohan Babu.

Check out whether AOD has reached all the expectations or not in this Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu review…

Story:

Irendri (Manchu Lakshmi) is an evil queen who rules the teardrop shaped Anga Rajyam. All the people in that place will be leading a tearful life under the clutches of Irendri. There is a small girl named Moksha (Baby Harshitha), who has godly powers and she can only save those people from that evil queen. Even Irendri too needs that girl to become immortal. That girl is protected by a blind swordsman Yodha (Siddarth). Irendri uses every force and power to get Moksha but the latter is well safeguarded by Yodha. Finally Irendri herself gets into action. How the good wins over evil forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

First and foremost thing that an audience should do before watching this film is to shut off the logic searching cells of your brain. This is a fairy tale and we should not look for logics in it. Director Prakash Kovelamudi took up a daunting task of making a wafer thin line into a feature film. Fairy tales are tough to handle if they aren’t backed with a strong story telling technique.

The director needs to incorporate more and more thrilling scenes and various characters to make it engrossing. Sadly, Prakash Kovelamudi simply stuck to the basics and kept on canning similar scenes one after the other. The film falls short on emotional quotient and that has been the main drawback of it.

Every time a bunch of goons or some creatures come, the protagonist simply swings his sword and everything is safe and sound in the next scene. The Dheerudu is never tested to the core in the film, not even in the climax. Worst part of his characterization is making him blind without purpose. When he gets back his eyes before meeting the evil queen, then why the heck should he be blinded until then. Is this a test for Siddarth’s acting prowess or what?

Visual FX are stunning and without a doubt it is by far the best graphical film on our screen. That helps this film to win eyes but not hearts. To win hearts a film needs to be high on emotional quotient and has to involve the audience into it. AOD lacks soul and that will not help this film to conquer the box office.

Performances:

Siddarth is not like a warrior at all. He didn’t workout a bit to suit the character. His acting as a blind man is not up to the mark. However, he excelled in the love story part which indicates that he could only carry romantic roles. Shruti Haasan is beautiful and she sizzled in those colorful costumes. She can act too. Sunitha’s dubbing is not in sync with Shruti’s acting though.

Manchu Lakshmi is the asset for this film. Although she didn’t do anything phenomenal in it she has suited to the role to the T. Her walk and voice are great especially to elevate this character.

Ravibabu is fine. Baby Harshita is OK. Ali’s comedy is cheap and Brahmanandam’s single scene role didn’t work.

Technicalities:

Soundar Rajan’s cinematography is excellent. Art work is brilliant. Graphics are awesome for Tollywood standards. Editing is fine. Music composed by four music directors is not so great. All the songs sounded similar. They are well picturized though. Background score is good but not up to the mark. Production values are superb. Every frame is a visual splendor.

Prakash Kovelamudi concentrated more on effects and didn’t work much on the script. If these visual effects are backed by a strong script then Dheerudu might have done wonders. However, his efforts should be lauded. He didn’t try to churn out a masala film for the sake of commercial success. Had he given more thought on the screenplay and filled the film with engrossing elements his efforts may not have gone wasted.

Plus Points:

- Graphics
- Manchu Lakshmi
- Art work
- Cinematography
- Rich Production values

Minus points:

- Weak storyline
- Less on emotions
- Slow narration

Final Word:

Anaganaga O Dheerudu is for people who are bored of watching run of the mill films. It will appeal to kids. But it doesn’t have universal appeal and that will not help the film’s prospects at the box office. You can watch it once for the stunning visuals.

Dhobi Ghat Review - Dhobi Ghat Movie Review:
Brand Aamir Khan itself makes Dhobi Ghat movie special and bears the must watch tag prior to the release. Before we get into the review part lets accept a fact that the superstar always throws in surprises be it as an actor or producer. We can’t expect what an Aamir Khan’s film offers until we watch it. But one thing is sure guaranteed from Aamir Khan and his films. Wonderful cinematic experience! Dhobi Ghat is no different from it. Read on Dhobi Ghat Movie Review…

Story:

Dhobi Ghat isn’t a story. It is just peeping into few people’s diaries and getting along with their experiences and experiencing their emotions. Arun (Aamir Khan) is a middle aged painter and a loner. Shais (Monica Dogra) is a photographer who likes to live simple despite being filthy rich. Munna (Prateik Babbar) is a dhobi and an aspiring actor. This story interlinks all these three people’s lives. There is another prime character in this film. But that is only confined to a video. She is an average Indian girl Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra).

Dhobi Ghat is not a film it is the experience of these four prime characters. Watch it to experience it.

Analysis:

Dhobi Ghat kicks out all the cinematic clichés aside. It isn’t a usual film with usual characters. Director Kiran Rao leaves her own mark in every frame and scene. It is a slow paced drama which requires immense attention from the audience. If you have to feel the emotions you have to get involved in the proceedings.

Sadly, this film isn’t for all age groups and all categories of audience. Hence, watching it in a theater doesn’t allow you to gel well with the proceedings. Especially teenagers and masala film lovers can’t connect with it and they also spoils others viewing experience. Dhobi Ghat unfolds at its own pace. It is mostly filmed on video cameras and hand held cameras. Therefore, we feel like we are watching somebody’s personal video in their absence.

Director Kiran Rao has an excellent in view of characters and the way she brought their emotions on to the screen is awesome. Dhobi Ghat may not be successful at the box office but it will definitely carve a niche for itself. Dhobi Ghat should be watched all alone to get involved and immersed into the film. Therefore, watching it on a DVD is better option.

Performances:

Aamir Khan underplayed his role very well. But he should have gone for a lesser known star to play this role as his presence will definitely increase the expectations and audience demand more from him. Prateik Babbar is a revelation. He easily got into the skin of the character and excelled to the core. Watch out for this kid, he is a born actor.

Monica Dogra gave a natural performance and everyone who feels this film would feel that they should have a friend like her. Kriti did an excellent job. Every other actor did their bit.

Technicalities:

Tushar Kanti Ray cinematography is an asset. Camera work is so brilliant that sometimes you forget that you are watching a film and feel that this is happening in your neighborhood. Gustavo Santaolalla’s background score elevates the mood of the film. Editing could have been crisper and tighter to make the film more gripping.

Kiran Rao proves her mettle as a director. We can expect lot more meaningful cinemas from her. Aamir Khan should be commended for producing such a good piece of cinema.

Plus Points:

- Performances
- Cinematography
- Direction

Minus points:

- Lacking universal appeal
- Narrative is snail paced

Final Word:

Dhobi Ghat is not for everyone. It needs the audience to pay attention to every detail despite the slowness. So, don’t go to this movie for popcorn entertainment.

Golconda High School review – Golconda High School Movie review:

After making a succesful romantic comedy Ashta Chamma, director Indraganti Mohana Krishna focuses on sports genre in Golconda High School. This movie review was awaited by most of the film buffs for the movie has raised many expectations prior to its release. GHS was surrounded by positive buzz as it promised to be a different film among the current crop of films.

Read on Golconda High School Review…

Story:

Golconda High School was once champion in sports. But it has been doing poorly from fifteen years which made a greedy trustee Kireet Das (Subbaraju) to think about using the school ground for commercial purpose. But the principal (Tanikella Bharani) strongly opposes that decision and appoints Sampath (Sumanth), who was a former student of GHS and also a cricket champion as the new coach. Sampath challenges with Kireet Das that he would win the interschool championship which is to be conducted in three months. As per the agreement, if Sampath and his team fail then Kireet will go ahead with his plans. If Sampath wins then Kireet will resign as the trustee.

GHS cricket team consists of a bunch of arrogant, good for nothing students. Sampath has to change their attitude towards the game and make them winners.

Analysis:

Firstly, Golconda High School is an honest film made with a purpose. It fights for the students right to play games. It tries to educate parents about how sports play an important role in student’s academic performance. The theme is good and the setup of the film is perfect.

There is an emotional angle given to the story by connecting it to playground ala Sye. It follows sports films clichés like a failed sportsman taking up the job of a coach; A bunch of talented but arrogant players; The coach winning their love and respect; Coaching process; Last minute drama; Nail biting finish!

GHS is highly influenced by Sharukh Khan’s Chakde India. Most of the screenplay is directly borrowed from it. Of course there is a romantic touch to it. However, the director didn’t deviate much from the actual story for the sake of giving the romantic part a fair deal. He has stuck to the theme and it can be commended.

But he has failed in building up the right tempo with well written scenes. Almost every scene in GHS looks ordinary if not poor. The director backed on a silly scene for the coach to win the respect of his team. The training process was below par. Except for an expected final scene, GHS didn’t make an interesting game.

Inspiring dialogue should be the key factor in sports film and GHS lacks that completely. There are two scenes where the coach tries to inspire his team with powerful lines and the writing fell flat in those scenes. Speaking about ‘Magathanam’ to school kids to inspire them is foolish. Director Mohana Krishna, who is also the dialog writer of this film should’ve done better job. Remember those inspiring speeches by Rajiv Kanakala in Sye and Shahrukh Khan in Chak De? GHS didn’t have such powerful lines.

Performances:

Sumanth did a fine job within his limitations. But the character required much more intense performance from the lead man. Swathi is cute and her role is very limited. Tanikella Bharani is good. Subbaraju and Shafi too gave neat performances. Every kid in the team did justice to their respective roles. But the guy who played Siddhanth makes an impression with a wonderful performance.

Technicalities:

Senthil’s cinematography is good considering the budget limitations. Editing is nice too. Music by Kalyani Malik is an asset to the movie. Jagore Jagore and Oka naati aadamarupu songs are nice compositions. Sirivennela’s inspiring lyrics needs a special mention. Production values are standard.

Indraganti Mohana Krishna falls short of expectations in making an intense film. One gets a feeling that he could deal lighter vein subjects better. His screenplay and dialogue are on the negative side of this film.

Plus Points:

- Honest efforts without falling back on so called commercial aspects.
- Good climax
- Inspiring songs

Minus points:

- Weak screenplay
- Lack of powerful dialogue

Final Word:

Golconda High School could have been better. However, you can give it a try for its honesty. Don’t expect too much and you may not come out disappointed.

Golconda High School review rating: 3/5

Wanted Movie Review – Wanted Review: Gopichand’s new movie Wanted is out for the masala craving Telugu audience. It is yet another routine fare from the ever monotonous actor. Let’s uncover the boredom which is now renamed as Wanted in this review….

Story:

Rambabu (Gopichand) is a pampered son who doesn’t care to work and his lovable parents don’t allow him to do any. He bumps into a girl Nandini (Deeksha Seth), who has a haunted past. From then on Rambabu sincerely tries to woo her but Nandini has other plans on the priority list. She has scores to settle down with a local don Basivi Reddy (Prakash Raj). What did Reddy do to her? What does she ‘want’ Rambabu to do for her? Is what we get to know in the rest of the story!

Analysis:

Wanted story is as old as Himalayas. There is not a single scene which gives you satisfaction that you have watched something ‘new’ and ‘unseen’. Wanted takes the beaten to death track and also to beats the audiences to death! Director BVS Ravi might have thought he has taken a ‘safe route’ by selecting this story to make his debut. But he has gone wrong with the basics.

This film doesn’t have any story. Director has no clue of what to do in the first hour of the movie. Therefore he simply passed the time with various irritating (literally) scenes where the hero runs after the heroine for love. Every now and then a song pops up on the screen and of course an action scene too. When the journey seems unending and pointless the heroine asks a favor from the hero and in the next scene he confronts the villain.

Second half is about villain’s search to reach the hero and teach him a lesson. The flashback of heroine too is revealed in this half. The brutal killing episode in this flashback reminds you of Atanokkade film. The only conflict or interesting element of this film should be the hero-villain confrontation. When the hero meets the villain at the interval point and puts a gun to his chest and returns back unhurt, there is no point in dragging the film for another hour.

BVS Ravi’s screenplay lacked spine. He has written a wafer thin story and has given it a mindless treatment so that it hardly engages the viewer. Comedy track shot on Brahmanandam is another waste of time. Wanted doesn’t appeal to hardcore mass masala movie lovers too. Ravi should get his basics right if he ever tries to make a second attempt at direction.

Performances:

Gopichand sleepwalks through his role. He has done such roles in the past and there is nothing to interest him/us to do/watch as Rambabu. Deeksha Seth doesn’t even know the ABCD of acting. She can’t dance and at least can’t confidently face the camera. She is just a pretty face who should be limited to a second fiddle.

Chandra Mohan and Jayasudha who are generally natural are too loud in this film. Prakash Raj too looked bored throughout the film. Brahmanandam , Raghubabu comedy track failed to evoke any laughs.

There is nothing to mention about the rest of the star cast.

Technicalities:

Cinematography is alright. Dialogues written by Ravi himself are bad. Editing is standard. Chakri’s music didn’t have any mass numbers despite mass hero Gopichand playing the lead role. None of the songs are appealing. Background score is strictly Okay. Production values are fine.

BVS Ravi who started off his career as a writer didn’t do anything exceptional as a writer to date. He is just any ordinary writer and with this film he proves he is better at writing than directing. Wanted is a bad film on every aspect and it is certainly not a film which we expect from a debutante.

Plus Points:

- Hardly any

Minus points:

- Everything

Final Word: Watch Wanted at your own risk.

Ala Modalaindi Review – Ala Modalayindi Telugu Movie Review: Nani, who shot to fame with Ashta Chamma is now back with Ala Modalaindi. This movie review might not be the much awaited one prior release but it would certainly grab eyes with the word of mouth. Yes, we are stating that Ala Modalaindi is a film which surprises you with freshness. Here goes the review of Ala Modalaindi…

Story:

Gowtham (Nani) gets kidnapped by John (Aashish Vidyardhi) and the latter asks the former to tell his story in order to pass time. Gowtam starts narrating his story. Gowtam loves Simran (Kriti Karbandha) but fails to express it and before he does that she marries Sagar. Now, Gowtam gets introduced to Nitya (Nitya Menon) in that marriage. Nitya’s is the same case as that of Gowtam’s. She loves Sagar but doesn’t express it to him. Nitya and Gowtam fall for each other but don’t realize that. They get engaged to Dileep and Kavya (Sneha Ullal) respectively. Then a series of unexpected things happen leading to the climax.

Analysis:

Ala Modalaindi is a romantic comedy and it stays sincere to the genre. Romantic comedies are not alien to Telugu audience and they are well acquainted with many such films. Therefore, making another one and getting the acceptance of audience is a big challenge. Debutante director Nandini Reddy takes up this challenge and comes up with a fresh treatment.

Ala Modalaindi has some freshly written scenes and every once in a while it impresses you with that intelligent writing. Although film has some hiccups in the middle as the screenplay lags, it never loses the audience attention due to witty dialogue and wonderful performances. Nandini Reddy throws few surprises towards the end when we expect the film to end on a routine note. That has turned out to be the major asset to this film.

Last half hour is a laugh riot. That itself is worth your ticket price. Rest of the film is a bonus. People who love watch romantic comedies shouldn’t miss this one.

Performances:

Nani is confident. But his act and histrionics seem repetitive. He should try to work on his look as he looks similar in any role he plays. Nitya Menon is the find of the season. What a talent she has. She has easily pulled this film off all by her own. Besides she dubbed for her character which is a major plus for her to have her identity amidst non Telugu speaking heroines. Sneha Ullal looks like a beautiful doll who can’t emote a bit. Kriti Karbandha’s role is limited. Ashish Vidyardhi is apt and his act is impressive. Radio Mirchi Hemanth and others excelled in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Arjun John’s cinematography is dull. A better cinematographer might have done world of good to this film. Kalyani Malik’s music is good. A couple of songs are impressive. Lakshmi Bhupal’s dialogue gelled well with the mood of the film. Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing is fine. Production values are Okay.

Nandini Reddy has made her debut count. Gentlemen, here is a lady who knows to direct and has it in her to survive among the male dominated film fraternity. She has grabbed the pulse of current generation youth and that did help her in making this film appeal to them. Watch out for Nandini, she is here to stay.

Plus Points:

- Fresh treatment
- Comedy scenes
- Nitya Menon
- Pre climax and climax

Minus points:

- Dragging middle
- Dull cinematography

Final Word:

Ala Modalaindi started on a dull note at the box office. But with the positive word of mouth spreading fast, it should do well at least in urban areas.
